Adios Blogosphere

Well all, it’s been nice blogging these last few months. Hope you enjoyed the IPv6 information. But alas, the course is drawing to a close and so is my tenure in the blogosphere. Also, I’ll be moving to Brussels sometime in the next month or so. So my 17 year tenure in DC will be up as well.

BLOG ON!!!!!!!!!!!

Anecdotes on Addresses

In one of the other entries I wrote about the number of addresses that will be available in IPv6 - an undicillion. Which in numerical terms is 340,282,366,920,938,463,463,374,607,431,768,211,456.

As for trying to come up with this number in the natural world, I found a reference! This number is estimated to be more than the number of molecules in the moon. WOW.

To put the number in a different perspective, there will be 655,570,793,348,866,943,898,599 addresses available for every square meter of the Earth’s surface. OK, even when nanotechnology defines our entire existance, we shouldn’t run out of addresses!

But you know, they said that about the 4 billion available host addresses with IPv4, and look where we are today. So, never say never when it comes to anything related to IT.
